It’s taken an absolute age and six nominations, but finally Leonardo DiCaprio has won an Oscar! The 88th Academy Awards ceremony has seen hunky Leo given a trophy for his role in The Revenant, for which he was nominated for and then won the title of Best Actor. But it’s not just us who are also celebrating this long deserved award; the entire audience gave him a standing ovation during the show too.

Leo threw a curveball during his acceptance speech and rather than mentioning his relief that he has now got a mantelpiece trophy, he surprised us all by talking about climate change. “Climate change is real, it is happening right now, it is a threat facing our entire species and we need to stop procrastinating and support leaders around the world... who speak for all humanity," he said.

So what exactly does climate change have to do with The Revenant? Well, set in the 1823 on the Great Plains of America, Leo plays legendary mountain man Hugh Glass. Bare to the bones and certainly no Titanic romance, The Revenant tells the tale of how Glass travels with a group of men into the wilderness as part of a commercial fur expedition. Ice, snow and freezing temperatures throughout, Leo’s raw acting dazzles you with portraying the brutalness of reality in those days.
After having spent months in what some of the cast and crew called ‘a living hell,’ it’s obvious that that the icy covered plains have impacted significantly on Leo’s environmental beliefs. Glass was left for dead after being mauled by a bear, he had to pit his wit and brawn against the environment, helping to grow Leo’s strong beliefs on climate change.

It came as somewhat of a surprise to his fans though, when it was reported that he spent the night celebrating his win with reality star Lauren Hutton. Known for having dated many of the world’s top models, Leo’s interest in Hutton was noted and other guests commented on how well they got along together. Perhaps we are seeing the start of a new romance blossom? Though the pair were introduced early in 2014, newspapers have reported that they also had a little ‘get together’ during the 2016 BAFTAs.

So Sorry Ladies.. it looks like Leo maybe off the market..
